Dry AMD and Wet AMD are the two basic types of AMD. The change in the macula is the difference between these two types. Dry AMD patients will have a few tiny drusen in their macula, which will gradually impair light-sensitive cells and cause vision loss. Blood vessels expand underneath the macula of persons with wet form AMD, allowing blood and fluid to flow into the retina.
Dry AMD and wet AMD are the two types of AMD. A person might have both types of disease and the condition can proceed slowly or aggressively.
Tobacco use and high cholesterol increase the risk of AMD. Obesity in the abdomen region is a risk factor, especially in men. Those with a family history of AMD have a higher chance of developing it.
