Blood In Eye

Most of us are aware of essential complications of the eyes, which occur on a day-to-day basis, and they mainly include dry eyes, redness and itching in the eyes, but very few talk about blood in eyes.

Types of Eye Bleeding

There are three leading causes of eye bleeding: hyphemas, subconjunctival haemorrhage and other types of eye haemorrhage.

1. A subconjunctival haemorrhage in the eyes is quite common and, in most cases, harmless. They can occur without apparent reason, but certain health conditions and activities can enhance the risk.

This may include diseases such as high blood pressure, eye injury, rubbing the eyes harshly and even when one consumes medication that has blood thinners or interferon. In such conditions, you should visit an eye expert or an eye specialist if you have eye pain or if the red spot doesn’t improve after two weeks.

2. Hyphema

There are even instances wherein the injuries in the eyes may lead to bleeding in the front (or anterior chamber) of the eyes.  This area lies between the cornea and the iris; such bleeding could be a hyphema.

The symptoms of hyphema include blurred or distorted vision, along with nausea and vomiting tendency due to high intraocular pressure in the eyes.

Along with this, eyelid swelling though not a symptom of hyphema itself is also common after injuries that cause hyphema. If you sustain an injury and notice any of the above symptoms, seek immediate care and meet an Ayurvedic eye expert.

Other hemorrhage conditions

There are other hemorrhage conditions which cause bleeding in the eyes including haemolacria, a rare condition where blood can be seen in the tears. Some other conditions include bleeding in the vitreous cavity in the eye which is termed as vitreous hemorrhage and in cases of subretinal hemorrhage where bleeding occurs under the retina. There is another hemorrhage that is when there is bleeding in the macula which is a space between the retinal pigment epithelium and the retina.
